Entry Requirements:
- Participants must provide identification and be 18 years of age or over.
- Sound verbal and written comprehension of the English language is mandatory.
- Trousers, shirt and safety boots are required to be worn at each session.
- Participants must hold the appropriate Heavy Vehicle license.
Our two day training course is for people who have minimal or no tip truck operating experience.
It’s an intensive, hands-on training course, with the majority of the time spent operating the equipment.
A strong theoretical component is also included that focuses on safe operating procedures.

1. Plan and prepare for tip truck operations
1.1 Access, interpret and apply vehicle haulage documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
1.2 Obtained, confirm and apply work requirements such as; shift briefings/handover details/work orders, /plans/specifications/quality requirements/operational details
1.3 Identify, obtain and implement signage requirements per the project traffic management plan
1.4 Select vehicle, tools and equipment
1.5 Check tools and equipment for serviceability and rectify or report faults
1.6 Identify, confirm and apply environmental protection requirements from the project environmental management plan

2. Conduct tip truck pre-operational checks
2.1 Carry out pre-start, start-up, park and shutdown
2.2 Check tip truck controls and functions, including tray, steering, brakes and manoeuvrability for serviceability and ensure any faults are rectified or reported

3. Operate tip truck
3.1 Identify and manage site operating hazards and risks, apply safe operating techniques
3.2 Manage engine power, ensure efficiency of truck movements, and minimise strain on the engine, drive line and gears
3.3 Coordinate engine power with gear selection, ensure smooth transition and operation within torque range
3.4 Operate tip truck to work instructions
3.5 Monitor road/traffic conditions, consider road conditions, traffic flow, distance and load, ensure safety of people, property, equipment, loads and facilities
3.6 Halt vehicle smoothly, using the engine retarder, gears and brakes
3.2 Manage engine power, ensure efficiency of truck movements, and minimise strain on the engine, drive line and gears
3.3 Coordinate engine power with gear selection, ensure smooth transition and operation within torque range
3.4 Operate tip truck to work instructions
3.5 Monitor road/traffic conditions, consider road conditions, traffic flow, distance and load, ensure safety of people, property, equipment, loads and facilities

4. Load, transport and tip materials
4.1 Position tip truck at load and discharge points with a minimum of manoeuvre
4.2 Carry out smooth and controlled tip truck movements including the raising and lowering of the tray
4.3 Ensure weight and distribution of load is assessed for type of material and size of vehicle within vehicle capacity
4.4 Maintain safety and security of load, including load cover requirements, from loading site to discharge site
4.5 Discharge load on slope and/or over face at fill site
4.6 Dump/spread material evenly, to work instructions
4.7 Clear, lower and secure tray before resuming travel
4.2 Carry out smooth and controlled tip truck movements including the raising and lowering of the tray
4.3 Ensure weight and distribution of load is assessed for type of material and size of vehicle within vehicle capacity
4.4 Maintain safety and security of load, including load cover requirements, from loading site to discharge site
4.5 Discharge load on slope and/or over face at fill site
4.6 Dump/spread material evenly, to work instructions

5. Carry out operator maintenance
5.1 Ensure tip truck is safely parked and prepared for operator maintenance and shutdown
5.2 Conduct visual and physical inspection and fault finding
5.3 Remove and replace defective parts
5.4 Carry out scheduled maintenance
5.5 Maintain/update and submit vehicle written records

6. Clean up

Assessment
Assessments will be conducted using a theory and practical assessment tool.
The assessor will inform you of each of the assessments prior to them being conducted.
