He is a trainer of vast experience, who came to the RTO after spending many years in the hospitality industry.

At OROR he trains in a variety of courses including forklifts, work platforms, non-slewing crane and HIAB cranes, and consistently upgrading his skills .

Tony was named the Employee of the Year (2014) in the City of Glenorchy Excellence Awards and this is testimony to the high esteem in which he is held by all those he has contact with in his work as trainer/assessor.

Tony’s approach to training is summed up as follows: “I aim for the student to have a positive learning experience in an environment that is not daunting with a good dash of humour thrown in “

Outside of work Tony loves to spend time with his grand children and working in his garden, when he has time, he doesn’t mind using his chef skills.

You will find him easy going and always ready to go the extra mile to ensure your training is a profitable experience.

He had spent 34 years at Nyrstar Hobart, the last 20 of which as a trainer and assessor. It was natural that he would continue to utilise the skills gained in that long career when he joined OROR.

He has never looked back and now trains in the areas of truck licencing, high risk licencing and machinery operations.

Don takes a “steady as she goes “outlook to training and has a patient and thorough approach which puts trainees at ease.

Don often says of his job” I like to think we are the best. I was properly trained and I always ensure that those people I deal with receive a thorough and comprehensive training “

Outside of work Don spends time in his garden, is and hands on grandfather and a passionate Carlton supporter, and catching up with the locals at the Brighton hotel.

Rod is the Training Manager and has been with OROR for four years.

Prior to this he worked as an Operations Supervisor at the Wilfred Lopes Centre and that followed a period at A H Beard as the Operations Manager.

Rod also, from time to time, steps into the breach and trains in the areas of Security and Transport.

Being responsible for the smooth operation of OROR he brings to that task a sense of humour and a degree of patience necessary to ensure the clients of the RTO are at all times the priority.

When he manages to drag himself away from his desk he is often seen at the local football club or cheering on Carlton from the couch at home.

Wife Linda keeps him on the straight and narrow…..most of the time—-and makes sure a work balance is achieved.

Kiel is the youngest trainer at OROR and brings a youthful enthusiasm to his training.

Before moving to be with us he worked as an accounts manager in the freight and spare parts industry. In addition he has had extensive experience as an interstate truck driver and within the forestry and construction industries.

The skills learnt there enable him to bring an industry perspective to his work.

Kiel trains in machinery operations and high risk licencing and says this of the approach he takes to training:

“I am keen to help younger people up skill and I believe a patient thorough approach to training ensures that I achieve a very high level of competent trainees at the end of each course.”

Kiel is continuing to upgrade his qualifications by engaging in ongoing learning.

As a young father he spends his spare time assisting in the upbringing of his daughter and when possible still likes to get away with mates 4 wheel driving and riding his XR400R Honda.
